Las Vegas Grand Prix Secures Two-Year Extension through 2027
The Las Vegas Grand Prix will continue to host Formula 1 races until at least 2027 following a two-year contract extension announced by race organizers. This decision comes after the race’s successful reintroduction to the calendar in 2023, and it positions Las Vegas uniquely as it is promoted directly by Formula One Management (FOM).
Race president and CEO Emily Prazer confirmed the extension, emphasizing the intent for a longer-term arrangement. “We’ve agreed collectively that we’re going to do a two-year extension for 2026 and ’27,” Prazer stated. She highlighted the need for ongoing evolution in their approach to ensure mutual benefits for the city and the organizers.
The economic impact of the Las Vegas Grand Prix has been significant, generating $934 million in revenue during the 2024 race weekend. The event garnered the largest recurring attendance in Las Vegas history, with 306,000 attendees, of which approximately 175,000 traveled from outside the city. This influx has provided substantial benefits to local hotels, casinos, and retail operations.
Steve Hill, president of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, underscored the race’s unique impact, stating, “Nothing else has actually changed. We’re planning on this being a permanent race, and we’ll just keep planning extensions that will probably expand as we go forward.”
Max Verstappen celebrated his 2022 world championship victory in Las Vegas, a location renowned for its iconic landmarks, further enhancing the visibility of the race weekend.
In context, the Las Vegas Grand Prix represents a secure addition to the Formula 1 calendar, reflecting both the city’s strategic interests and the event’s broad appeal among fans and tourists alike.
