Hamilton Confronts Technical Struggles Ahead of Canadian Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton has disclosed the profound challenges he faced during the recent Spanish Grand Prix, where technical issues with his Ferrari significantly hindered his performance. Starting from fifth position, Hamilton ultimately finished sixth, experiencing a race clouded by mechanical difficulties.
“It was the worst feeling I’ve ever had," Hamilton stated. "I’ve never experienced something this bad for such a prolonged time through a race." Both Hamilton and teammate Charles Leclerc were subjected to significant car-related setbacks halfway through the event, contributing to their less-than-ideal finishes.
The seven-time champion expressed relief upon learning that the performance deficit was due to a technical issue rather than solely driver error, which he discovered post-race when speaking with engineers. “It was a bit of a relief… because I definitely didn’t feel so terrible afterwards,” he noted.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur corroborated Hamilton’s claims, suggesting that on-track observations should outweigh speculative judgments. “He did 45 laps in front of Russell. The result is not good, but we had an issue on the car in the last stint,” Vasseur explained.
Looking ahead to the Canadian Grand Prix, Hamilton’s prospects appear precarious. Sky Sports commentator David Croft emphasized the importance of this race for Hamilton, especially given his strong historical performance at this venue: “If he has another down day like he did in Barcelona, then there are issues.”
As Hamilton prepares for the Canadian GP, the focus will be on whether he can reclaim his form and tackle the challenges that have plagued his recent performances.
