Liam Lawson Reflects on Challenging Start with Red Bull Racing
Liam Lawson, driver for Racing Bulls, is adjusting to a turbulent season after a short-lived tenure with Red Bull Racing, where he was replaced by Yuki Tsunoda following two underwhelming races. Lawson, who amassed 12 points while racing for Racing Bulls, expressed that he is still processing his early-season challenges.
Reflecting on his two races at Red Bull, which included a dismal qualification of 18th in the season opener and finishing at the back of the grid in China, Lawson stated, “Honestly, not really – not yet. I think now it’s not quite… I think the summer break is the time everybody mentally switches off.”
The decision to switch drivers was made during a Red Bull management meeting in Dubai, confirming Tsunoda’s return to the team for the Japanese Grand Prix. Lawson maintains that his confidence remains intact despite the speculation. “It’s been very heavily speculated that my confidence took a hit… which is completely false,” he stated, emphasizing that two races are insufficient to assess a driver’s capabilities.
As he approaches the midpoint of the season, Lawson is focused on improving performances at upcoming races in Belgium and Hungary. “It’s nice to have a bit of time to breathe, but mentally I’m thinking about the upcoming races and trying to go into that break with some good performances,” he said.
Lawson also acknowledged the intense pace of the racing calendar, remarking, “Here, you’re forced to basically come out of a race weekend… have a day to think about what just happened, and then you’re straight away thinking about the next race.” He noted the rapid progression of the season, with 12 races completed already.
Looking ahead, Lawson aims to leverage his experience to achieve greater consistency in the second half of the season.
