Arvid Lindblad to Make Grand Prix Weekend Debut at Silverstone
Silverstone, UK — Arvid Lindblad, the 17-year-old Red Bull Racing junior, will participate in Friday practice for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko confirmed today. This event marks Lindblad’s debut weekend in a Formula 1 setting after securing his FIA superlicence and completing a test drive in Racing Bulls’ 2023 AT04 at Imola earlier this week.
Lindblad, who races in Formula 2 with Campos Racing, took the wheel of the AT04 on Monday, sharing testing duties with fellow junior driver Ayumu Iwasa. Marko highlighted Lindblad’s preparation, stating, “He spent half a day in the car in Italy on Monday to prepare him… He is characterised by his mental strength and self-confidence.”
The British Grand Prix is scheduled for July 4-6, 2024. Lindblad’s participation is part of Red Bull’s strategy to enhance their reserve driver lineup, particularly in light of concerns regarding Max Verstappen’s penalty points, as the reigning world champion is at risk of a race ban. Marko elaborated, “We currently have two replacement drivers: Lindblad and Ayumu Iwasa, whose commitments overlap. It is not easy to find someone who is in good shape. That’s why Lindblad is now in the car.”
As Red Bull fortifies its reserve roster, Lindblad’s performance in Silverstone will be closely monitored, potentially paving the way for further opportunities within the team.
