Monaco Grand Prix Secures Place on F1 Calendar Until 2035
The Monaco Grand Prix will remain a staple of the Formula 1 calendar through 2035, following a four-year contract extension. This agreement allows the iconic street race to continue its rich history alongside new races in Canada and Madrid that also have contracts extending to 2035.
Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali emphasized the significance of this event, stating, “The streets of Monaco have been echoing with the sound of Formula 1 since the earliest days of the sport. I’m delighted to announce the extension of this fantastic event to 2035.” Domenicali acknowledged the unique atmosphere Monaco brings to the championship, thanking Prince Albert II of Monaco and key stakeholders for their roles in securing this deal.
Monaco’s historical connection to Formula 1 is strong, with the race having taken place 71 times, making it the second-most frequent venue after Monza. Prince Albert II remarked on the importance of this extension, asserting that it reflects the Principality’s commitment to maintaining its motorsport heritage. “The renewal is a testament to our collective success and the unique place that Monaco occupies in the international motorsport landscape,” he stated.
As part of the restructuring of the race calendar, the Monaco Grand Prix will move to early June beginning next year, facilitating a more regionalized schedule. Presently, 16 out of the 24 current F1 venues have confirmed contracts extending into the 2030s, with potential additions from locations such as Thailand and South Africa being explored.
This strategic extension not only solidifies Monaco’s position in the Formula 1 lineup but also enhances the sport’s commitment to its history and prestige.
