Miami GP: Leclerc and Hamilton’s Strategy Controversy Underlines Ferrari’s Challenges
In a heated Miami Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc assured that there were “no bad feelings” with teammate Lewis Hamilton following strategic tensions that led to multiple position swaps between the two. Hamilton, racing on medium tires, voiced his frustration over team radio, arguing he should be allowed to pass Leclerc, who was on harder compounds.
Despite the exchanges, Leclerc ultimately allowed Hamilton through, only to see the roles reversed shortly after as both drivers struggled to catch sixth-place Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Leclerc maintained he was unaware of Hamilton’s grievances during the race, emphasizing the need for Ferrari to refine their strategies.
“I would have done the same thing if I was him,” said Leclerc, acknowledging Hamilton’s push to capitalize on his tire advantage. He admitted the situation necessitated better communication within the team, outlining the need for improvement: “We need to regroup as a team and be better.”
Post-race reflections highlighted Ferrari’s ongoing struggles to maximize performance, with Leclerc admitting, “Today was not ideal and was far from maximizing our potential.” He noted the complexities of tire management during their on-track battle, adding that racing against Hamilton while managing his own tire degradation added to the difficulties.
“We need to ensure we are more robust in such situations,” he stated. Despite finishing behind their competitor Antonelli, Leclerc’s insights indicate a commitment to joint development within the team, stating, “I think we will be quite aligned on the fact that today wasn’t the Sunday we wanted.”
Overall, the Miami GP underscored Ferrari’s urgent need for a cohesive team strategy as they face intense competition.
