Norris Sets Sights on Verstappen for Miami GP
In a highly competitive qualifying session for the Miami Grand Prix, Lando Norris of McLaren secured second place, trailing Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing, who claimed pole position. Despite a minor setback at Turn 17 that hampered his qualifying efforts, Norris is optimistic about making an early move against Verstappen at the start of the race.
Norris remarked, "I’m ready to see what I can do into Turn 1." Starting on the inside line could provide him with a strategic advantage in the race. He emphasized the importance of the three DRS zones and prominent braking zones, which he believes will enhance overtaking opportunities compared to his recent experience at Suzuka, where passing was notably challenging due to low tire degradation.
Reflecting on his weekend, Norris noted that while he did not secure pole, he was pleased with his performance given the context of previous races in Bahrain and Jeddah. "It’s just a shame when you miss out on pole, but I’m happy with the progress," he stated, highlighting his work in the McLaren simulator to better adapt to the MCL39 car’s characteristics, which have previously posed challenges for his driving style.
Norris also acknowledged additional competition from teammates Kimi Antonelli and Oscar Piastri, who have both demonstrated strong pace throughout the weekend. The anticipation builds as the Miami Grand Prix promises an intense challenge for all drivers involved.
