Norris Clinches F1 World Championship as Verstappen Tops Abu Dhabi GP

In a thrilling conclusion to the 2025 Formula 1 season, Lando Norris has secured his first World Championship title, becoming the second driver to do so under the leadership of F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali, following Max Verstappen’s dominance in prior years. The pivotal moment came during Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where Verstappen took the win, but Norris’s third-place finish was enough to crown him champion.

Domenicali praised the competitive nature of the season, stating, “It’s been amazing to arrive at the end of the year with the title still undecided; it’s something that’s not taken for granted.” He reflected on the intense championship battle, which saw multiple contenders vying for the title throughout the year, including Oscar Piastri, who led at one point, alongside Norris and Verstappen.

“Congratulations to Lando,” Domenicali added. “He’s a great character for Formula 1… he will give a big boost of energy to the championship, to the younger generation.” He also acknowledged the impressive performances of Piastri and Verstappen, noting their growth as drivers and crediting them with contributing to a captivating title race.

Domenicali further commended the efforts of McLaren team principal Andrea Stella and CEO Zak Brown, highlighting the team’s resurgence over the past three years. He noted their critical roles in transforming McLaren back into title contenders. “I know what was the pressure,” he stated regarding Stella. “You have to be proud of what you have achieved… Zak Brown was very strong in taking the team from a very bad moment.”

With this championship, Norris not only solidifies his place in F1 history but also signals a rejuvenation for McLaren, restoring the team’s prominence in the sport. Fans can expect a bright future as this new chapter unfolds in Formula 1.
