O’Ward Dismisses Speculation About Cadillac F1 Move

IndyCar standout Pato O’Ward has publicly dismissed rumors regarding a potential contract with the upcoming Cadillac Formula 1 team, which is set to debut in 2026. Currently ranked second in the IndyCar Series standings, O’Ward clarified that he has no intentions of occupying one of Cadillac’s two seats.

In remarks to ESPN Mexico, O’Ward humorously compared the speculation to unfounded rumors about Fernando Alonso’s personal life. “The rumors about me going to Cadillac were like the rumors about Fernando Alonso hanging out with Taylor Swift,” he stated, downplaying the conjecture.

O’Ward’s connection to Formula 1 isn’t negligible. He has participated in Free Practice 1 events for McLaren, including the recent Mexican Grand Prix, as a reserve driver.

Cadillac’s Driver Search Progress

Cadillac F1 team principal Graeme Lowdon confirmed ongoing discussions with various drivers, including former Haas driver Mick Schumacher, Mercedes reserve Valtteri Bottas, and ex-Red Bull driver Sergio Perez. Notably, Colton Herta, another Andretti IndyCar driver, remains on their radar alongside other American prospects.

“We’ll select drivers on merit,” Lowdon emphasized to Motorsport.com. He acknowledged the team’s goal to establish a competitive presence, noting, “The fans would love to see an American driver in an American team.” However, he reiterated the significance of performance in final selections, stating, “There are a few very experienced drivers available.”

The team faces challenges due to timing discrepancies in the driver negotiation process but remains optimistic about assembling a strong lineup. "Whatever it is, it’ll be a strong one," Lowdon affirmed.

As Cadillac prepares for its F1 debut, the focus remains on building a capable team while navigating the competitive landscape of driver contracts.
