Monaco Grand Prix: Piastri Optimistic Despite Friday Struggles

Monte Carlo, Monaco – Oscar Piastri, the Formula 1 championship leader, expressed confidence in McLaren’s competitiveness for pole position at the Monaco Grand Prix, despite a challenging Friday that included a crash. During the second free practice session, Piastri lost control at Sainte Devote, narrowly avoiding significant damage, but rebounded to secure the second-fastest time overall.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc dominated both practice sessions, showcasing impressive pace that has surprised many within the paddock. Piastri recorded fifth in FP1, while teammate Lando Norris finished third and fourth across the sessions.

Piastri stated, “I think when we get everything together, the pace is quite good. It’s just not proving that easy to do at the moment,” highlighting the need for a reset after what he described as a “very messy” day. He acknowledged Ferrari’s stronger form at this venue but remains optimistic about McLaren’s potential as the weekend progresses.

Norris echoed Piastri’s sentiments, noting that minor adjustments could significantly enhance their performance. “It’s always good fun here, but just difficult to get some clean laps,” said Norris, who sits second in the championship standings. He indicated that small fixes could address the challenges they face with braking, cornering, and tire grip.

As McLaren prepares for Saturday’s qualifying, both drivers are focused on maximizing their car’s performance to contend for pole. The upcoming sessions will be critical as the team aims to capitalize on their pace and refine their strategies.
