McLaren Clears Lando Norris of Singapore Grand Prix Repercussions

McLaren has officially removed any repercussions for Lando Norris related to the Singapore Grand Prix, after an internal review identified Oscar Piastri as sharing responsibility for their first-lap collision during the Sprint at the United States Grand Prix.

Initially, Norris faced scrutiny for his racing tactics against Piastri in Singapore, with potential penalties that could extend through the remainder of the season. However, the incident at Circuit of The Americas shifted the focus to Piastri, who attempted a switchback maneuver at Turn 1, leading to contact with both Norris and Nico Hülkenberg.

Reflecting on the situation, Piastri stated, “We’ve gone through it again… there is a degree of responsibility from my side in the Sprint. We’re starting this weekend with a clean slate for both of us.”

Piastri acknowledged that the decision to absolve Norris stems from a broader analysis of all contributing factors during the incident. “Ultimately, that’s what has been decided,” he confirmed.

Despite recent performances from rival driver Max Verstappen tightening the championship battle, Piastri emphasized his focus on maximizing his performance: “For me, the focus has always been on trying to go as fast as I can… If I do a good enough job… then it doesn’t really matter what the picture looks like.”

He noted the advantages and challenges of both leading and chasing in the championship, stating, “I’d rather have the championship lead than being in any other spot.” Piastri remains confident that McLaren has been successful throughout the season, while also recognizing areas for improvement.
