Luca de Meo Steps Down as Renault Group CEO Amid Alpine Restructuring

Renault Group has officially announced the resignation of CEO Luca de Meo, effective July 15. De Meo has led the company for five years, a tenure marked by significant improvements in performance. In his statement, he expressed pride in having transformed Renault into a stronger organization: “The results speak for themselves: they are the best in our history… I am leaving a transformed company, poised for the future.”

The news comes on the heels of a challenging weekend for Alpine F1 driver Pierre Gasly, who finished 15th in the Canadian Grand Prix. Gasly expressed sadness at de Meo’s departure, citing their positive relationship and acknowledging the ongoing changes within the team. “It’s important that we keep that momentum going into ’26,” Gasly remarked, highlighting the need for focus during transitional phases.

Alpine’s organizational structure has shifted frequently, with recent leadership changes that included the exits of team principal Otmar Szafnauer and sporting director Alan Permane last July. Currently, Bruno Famin is serving as interim team chief, following Oliver Oakes’s abrupt resignation in May. Reports suggest that Steve Nielsen is likely to assume the team principal role.

Gasly emphasized the importance of teamwork and stability amidst these changes, saying, “It’s completely normal… to feel that,” and stressing the need to support each other through difficult times.

As the team prepares for its next phases, the focus remains on reestablishing direction and performance in the competitive landscape of Formula 1.
