Madring Circuit Unveiled for Spanish Grand Prix in 2026

Madrid is poised to become a key player in the Formula 1 calendar with the introduction of the Madring circuit, set to host the Spanish Grand Prix from September 2026. The 5.47 km layout, combining street sections with high-speed corners, was presented recently by local authorities and event organizers.

The circuit features a unique hybrid design, incorporating tighter urban sections around the IFEMA exhibition center alongside more expansive areas with steep banking around the Valdebebas festival grounds. This innovative approach aims to offer both challenges and excitement for drivers and fans alike.

Carlos Sainz, F1 driver and ambassador for the project, assured his peers, "The drivers have asked me about the circuit, the corners, the layout… I’ll do my utmost to make it a good show.” Sainz emphasized the importance of "character" in a circuit, citing examples like Baku and Jeddah, which have successfully melded urban design with overtaking opportunities.

"The final part, the banked corners and fast sequences, are more aligned with traditional European circuits," Sainz remarked, highlighting Madring’s potential to stand out. He believes that the combination of urban and traditional circuit features will provide a distinct experience for both drivers and spectators.

Strategically located on the outskirts of Madrid, the circuit is well-connected, enhancing its potential to elevate the status of the Spanish Grand Prix. Sainz expressed optimism about the event’s future, stating, “I think we can have the best circuit and the best event on the calendar. Madrid can compete with the likes of Mexico, Miami, and Las Vegas.”

The Madring circuit is set to become a significant addition to the F1 calendar, aiming to attract large crowds and enhance Spain’s motorsport profile.
