Vettel in Talks to Succeed Marko as Red Bull Advisor

Sebastian Vettel, the four-time Formula 1 world champion, has confirmed he is in preliminary discussions with Helmut Marko regarding the potential transition to an advisory role at Red Bull Racing. Marko’s contract extends until the conclusion of the 2026 season, and questions surrounding his future role have emerged as he approaches 84 years old.

Marko, a cornerstone of Red Bull’s F1 strategy since 2005, has been instrumental in shaping the team’s driver lineup and young talent development. In an interview with ORF, Vettel stated, "I still get on really well with Helmut… It’s possible [to succeed him], but what form that might take will have to be seen."

While doubts linger about whether Marko will step down after his current contract, Vettel remarked, "He’s a brutally realistic guy and is very good at sizing up situations." He further emphasized Marko’s significant impact, saying, "He’s made a very big contribution to what the whole team has achieved over the years."

If Vettel were to assume a role at Red Bull, he acknowledged that his approach would differ from Marko’s. "I don’t think he’s replaceable… The goal is not to simply have someone come in who replaces him," he noted, underscoring the importance of continuing Marko’s legacy.

Remaining engaged with F1 post-retirement, Vettel expressed more interest in the psychological dynamics of drivers rather than technical minutiae, stating, "I’m extremely curious to see who thinks in what way at the moment."

In response to inquiries about the succession plan, Marko indicated, "The question of succession is one for the company’s shareholders," adding that the main focus remains on narrowing the competitive gap with McLaren.

The ongoing discussions highlight Red Bull’s commitment to a structured approach to leadership transition as the team continues to evolve within a highly competitive F1 landscape.
