2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed Launches with Gordon Murray Tribute
The 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed commenced on Thursday, featuring a striking central sculpture dedicated to renowned automotive designer Gordon Murray. This centerpiece, jointly crafted by British designer Gerry Judah and Murray, celebrates his 60-year career and features the iconic mermaid logo synonymous with his brand.
Murray, celebrated for his designs with Brabham and McLaren, was appointed chief designer at Brabham in 1972, where his cars achieved 22 Grand Prix victories. Notably, the artwork showcases Murray’s T.50 supercar, which made its debut at the 2021 Goodwood Members’ Meeting, alongside the championship-winning Brabham BT52, driven by Nelson Piquet in 1983.
Throughout the weekend, 17 vehicles designed by Murray will be exhibited, including the legendary 1978 Brabham BT46B, the 1988 McLaren MP4/4, and the 1997 McLaren F1 GTR Long Tail.
In a statement ahead of the festival, Murray expressed, “I can barely believe it’s been 60 years I’ve been designing and engineering race and road cars. I can’t wait to reminisce with the thousands of fans.” Gordon Murray Group CEO Phillip Lee further highlighted their commitment to bespoke supercars, emphasizing the excitement of welcoming both new and existing customers into the Gordon Murray family.
The festival will run for four days, offering attendees the opportunity to appreciate the remarkable legacy of Murray and his contributions to motorsport.
