Hamilton’s Transition to Ferrari: Wolff Remains Confident
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff expressed unwavering confidence in Lewis Hamilton’s ability to recover his peak performance as he navigates his first season with Ferrari. After 12 years at Mercedes, Hamilton’s transition has been rocky, highlighted by a standout pole-to-flag victory in the China sprint race, but shadowed by struggles in other events, notably the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
In Saudi Arabia, Hamilton admitted to a lack of comfort with Ferrari’s 2025 car, stating, “not one second” felt right. This contrasts sharply with teammate Charles Leclerc, who secured Ferrari’s first podium of the season.
Wolff acknowledged the challenges Hamilton faces, particularly adjusting to a new team culture and the established presence of Leclerc. "He’s been with us for 12 years… I’m also not surprised that it has those road bumps," Wolff commented, noting that such adjustments are typical for any driver changing teams.
Highlighting Hamilton’s potential, Wolff remarked, “I think we’ve seen that magic in the Shanghai sprint race. He was completely dominating that race,” adding that once Hamilton aligns his performance with the car’s characteristics, his "stellar" capabilities will re-emerge.
As the F1 season progresses, all eyes will be on Hamilton’s ability to adapt and regain his formidable form amidst the evolving dynamics at Ferrari.
