Formula 1 Extends United States Grand Prix Contract at Circuit of The Americas Until 2034

Austin, Texas – Formula 1 has officially extended its contract with the Circuit of The Americas (COTA), ensuring the United States Grand Prix will remain at the venue until at least the end of 2034. This decision comes as part of F1’s ongoing commitment to grow its presence in the U.S. market.

COTA has been the host of the United States Grand Prix since 2012, revitalizing the event after a five-year absence. The previous contract was set to expire post-2026, but the extension solidifies COTA’s position on the F1 calendar for an additional eight years.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali highlighted the event’s increasing popularity, stating, “Since 2012, the United States Grand Prix has continued to grow in strength and popularity… each year, the event at COTA stands out as a true highlight for fans, drivers, and teams alike.” He also expressed gratitude to local authorities and the community for their ongoing support.

The race continues to draw massive crowds, with attendance anticipated to exceed 400,000 this year, even amid the emergence of new races in Miami and Las Vegas. Economic impact figures reveal that the Grand Prix has contributed approximately $7 billion to the Austin and Texas economies since its inception, with the 2023 race alone expected to generate over $1 billion in direct and indirect spending.

Bobby Epstein, COTA chairman, noted the significance of the contract extension, emphasizing, “With this contract, COTA will overtake Watkins Glen as the longest-serving Formula 1 track in the United States,” further underscoring the event’s status as one of the largest single-weekend sporting occasions globally.

This renewal at COTA follows Miami’s own long-term extension, confirmed earlier this year until 2041. F1’s strategy to build a robust presence in America is evident in these contracts, reflecting the sport’s ongoing success and growth in the region.
