Verstappen Skips Media Duties Ahead of Miami GP

Miami, FL – Max Verstappen, the reigning world champion and Red Bull Racing driver, will skip media engagements on Thursday prior to the Miami Grand Prix due to personal reasons related to the impending birth of his first child. The decision marks a rare absence for the driver, as media obligations are typically missed only for significant medical issues.

Red Bull confirmed that Verstappen’s absence is connected to his girlfriend, Kelly Piquet, who is expected to give birth soon. Although it remains unverified whether Piquet has already delivered, Verstappen was spotted departing Nice, France, on Thursday morning via private jet.

Sources indicate that “all is well” within Verstappen’s camp, and he is expected to participate in Friday’s practice sessions and sprint qualifying. The couple expressed their happiness about their baby-to-be last year in a joint Instagram announcement, describing it as their "little miracle."

Reflecting on his upcoming role as a parent, Verstappen commented to reporters in the Abu Dhabi paddock, “I’m already kind of a bonus dad,” referencing Piquet’s daughter from a previous relationship. He added, “But I’m still very excited for sure.”

Piquet acknowledged the mixed emotions surrounding pregnancy announcements in her Instagram Story, offering support to those who may be facing challenges in their own journeys toward parenthood.

The couple’s child stands to inherit impressive lineage, with seven world championships among the family, as Piquet is the daughter of three-time champion Nelson Piquet.

As attention turns back to the Miami GP, Verstappen’s absence from media duties will likely shift focus to the track performance as teams prepare for the upcoming practice sessions.
