Red Bull Set for Crucial Upgrades Ahead of Austrian Grand Prix

Austrian Grand Prix, Red Bull Ring – Max Verstappen acknowledges that the upcoming upgrades to the Red Bull RB21 will significantly influence the team’s performance for the remainder of the 2025 Formula 1 season. Following recent enhancements—including a new floor in Miami, rear corner modifications in Imola, and a front wing adjustment in Barcelona—Red Bull’s latest upgrades are scheduled for deployment at their home race in Austria.

Verstappen, currently third in the drivers’ standings, expressed optimism but also realism regarding the impact of these changes. "There are a couple of races coming up now where things can possibly change," he stated. "We will see how much of a difference this package can make. Hopefully, it will help, but I don’t know if it will be enough."

Despite recent developments, Red Bull is still trailing behind McLaren, particularly in terms of grip on technical circuits with low-to-medium speed corners, where tire management is critical. Team advisor Helmut Marko indicated that the Austrian upgrades would be refined for Silverstone, suggesting these changes might be the team’s last significant effort before redirecting focus to the 2026 development program.

Verstappen remains cautious about the competitive landscape. "With the standings and how it looks now, that’s not very realistic," he remarked concerning the likelihood of catching McLaren drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. "Just look at the results, then I think you know enough. In Canada, we had only the fifth-fastest pace of all the drivers."

While Canada showcased a potentially open title race, Verstappen refrained from overestimating McLaren’s struggles, attributing them to track-specific conditions. "McLaren is always very good on the tyres when they get really hot," he explained. "In Montreal, that’s generally a little less the case, so you can explain that."

As the team prepares for a pivotal stretch leading into the summer break, Verstappen’s approach remains focused: “I try to make the most of every weekend anyway.”

The coming races will be vital for Red Bull, who must capitalize on their upgrades to regain a competitive edge in the championship.
