Max Verstappen Prepares for Key Upgrades at Red Bull Ring
Max Verstappen emphasizes the critical importance of Red Bull Racing’s upcoming technical upgrades as the team gears up for the Austrian Grand Prix. Having recently implemented incremental changes including an upgraded floor in Miami and modifications to the rear corners in Imola, the team is set to debut its latest updates on the RB21, which include a new front wing in Barcelona.
Despite these advancements, Red Bull remains challenged in matching the grip of McLaren’s leading drivers, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, particularly on technical circuits where rear tire management is crucial. Team advisor Helmut Marko confirmed that the Austrian upgrades will undergo further refinements for the Silverstone race, marking a pivotal moment before the shift to the 2026 development program.
Currently holding third place in the championship standings, Verstappen acknowledged that the forthcoming races in Austria and at Silverstone will significantly impact his scoring ambitions for the season. "There are a couple of races coming up now where things can possibly change," Verstappen stated, expressing cautious hope that the new package will enhance competitiveness. However, he tempered expectations, admitting that closing the gap to McLaren appears "not very realistic" given recent performance assessments.
Reflecting on the Canadian Grand Prix, Verstappen noted Red Bull’s fifth-fastest pace and highlighted strategic execution as key to their result there, reiterating, "I try to make the most of every weekend." He remains vigilant, recognizing that rivals are continually progressing.
Verstappen’s focus now shifts to adapting to the upcoming circuit challenges and confirming the efficacy of the new upgrades in bolstering Red Bull’s performance before the summer break.
