Tsunoda’s Future at Red Bull in Question Following Uneven Performance
Yuki Tsunoda’s position at Red Bull Racing has come under scrutiny as the 25-year-old driver struggles with a challenging RB21 following his promotion from AlphaTauri ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka. In ten races with the team, Tsunoda has secured just seven points, placing him 17th in the drivers’ standings, while teammate Max Verstappen continues to face difficulties with the same car, currently sitting third with 165 points.
1997 Formula 1 champion Jacques Villeneuve commented on Tsunoda’s prospects, stating, "He’s a good driver, but you have to be exceptional… You have to be a Lewis, you have to be a Fernando, you have to be a Piastri or a Norris." Despite these concerns, Red Bull management has confirmed that Tsunoda will remain in his position until the end of the current season.
Tsunoda acknowledged the challenges of adapting to the Red Bull team and car. "It’s just difficult. It’s not easy being in the window which this car operates, which is quite narrow," he explained during the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend. He expressed a commitment to gradual improvement, saying, "I just won’t rush it, and progress step by step."
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Tsunoda as he attempts to solidify his place within a highly competitive environment.
