Chevrolet Sports Car Classic: Practice 1 Results

DETROIT, MI – Jack Aitken of Cadillac Whelen set the pace in the opening practice session of the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic, clocking a fastest lap of 1:07.254 in the red No. 31 Cadillac V-Series.R. His impressive time, achieved in the final minutes of the 90-minute session, places him in a strong position ahead of qualifying.

Second place went to Renger van der Zande in the No. 93 Acura Meyer Shank Racing ARX-06, who recorded a lap of 1:07.605. Nick Tandy, the reigning GTP champion driving the No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963, completed the top three with a time of 1:07.651, showcasing competitiveness despite recent Balance of Performance adjustments.

Ricky Taylor in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac followed closely in fourth, with BMW M Team RLL’s Sheldon van der Linde and Marco Wittmann rounding out the top six positions.

The session was marked by challenges on the bumpy Detroit streets, with 11 of the 22 participating cars encountering run-off areas. Notably, a red flag was issued following simultaneous incidents involving the No. 40 WTR Cadillac and the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan GT3. Both drivers, Louis Deletraz and Andrea Caldarelli, were able to continue but will lose their fastest qualifying lap due to the interruption.

In the GTD PRO category, Alexander Sims in the No. 3 Pratt Miller Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R led with a time of 1:10.818, just ahead of teammate Nicky Catsburg in the No. 4 Corvette at 1:11.009. The No. 9 Pfaff Lamborghini, driven by Marco Mapelli, secured third, followed closely by championship leader Laurin Heinrich in the No. 77 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R and Sebastian Priaulx in the No. 64 Ford Multimatic Motorsports Mustang GT3.
