BMW Unveils Upgraded M Hybrid V8 for 2026
Munich, Germany – BMW has introduced significant upgrades to its M Hybrid V8, set to debut in the 2026 racing season. The refreshed model features a reconfigured front grille with smaller kidney grilles while maintaining the iconic BMW Iconic Glow contour lighting. These alterations complement substantial aerodynamic enhancements aimed at improving both performance and cooling efficiency.
With confirmation pending, BMW is expected to continue its full-season commitments in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The BMW M Team WRT will field two cars in each series.
The upgrades stem from comprehensive analyses conducted during previous races in the WEC and IMSA, which highlighted key performance metrics. An engineered splitter redesign will optimize airflow across various circuit types, enhancing the car’s overall consistency.
Andreas Roos, head of BMW M Motorsport, emphasized the importance of these developments: “Since we began racing in the IMSA series in 2023 and the FIA WEC in 2024, we have learned a great deal about our BMW M Hybrid V8. Following our brake optimizations this season, it’s time for an aerodynamically improved version.”
The updated M Hybrid V8 will make its public debut at a joint test session following the WEC Lone Star Le Mans on September 7 at Circuit of The Americas. If homologation is successful, the car will compete at the 2026 Rolex 24 At Daytona, marking its highly anticipated entry into the season.
