Dillmann Aims for Success at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park after Strong Season Start

Reigning IMSA WeatherTech LMP2 champions Tom Dillmann and Inter Europol Competition are on the path to defend their title, beginning with a decisive victory at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). This event marks the first time Dillmann navigated the renowned Canadian circuit, but his immediate adaptability ensured a strong performance without prior testing.

In their previous season, Dillmann and co-driver Nick Boulle secured their championship with a singular win at CTMP, emphasizing the power of consistency. Over the past year, Dillmann has also claimed victories at the Le Mans 24 Hours and the Sebring 12 Hours, while consistently placing as a runner-up in his European Le Mans Series outings.

Reflecting on the current season, Dillmann stated, "The team has been strong every weekend. We know we have a quick car and execute good races. Consistency is key." However, the team’s performance has not been without challenges, as mechanical issues at Daytona and the ELMS opener in Barcelona hindered their progress.

Currently, Dillmann sits fifth in the LMP2 Drivers’ Championship, trailing United Autosports USA’s Daniel Goldburg by 166 points, with just three races remaining. According to Dillmann, “A fast car and track position will be critical,” as he prepares for the Chevrolet Grand Prix.

The upcoming race will see LMP2 as the leading class, potentially easing some challenges associated with starting alongside GTP competitors. Dillmann noted, "We don’t have to deal with the GTPs struggling on cold tires, which simplifies matters for us."

Strategic execution will be crucial, particularly during driver transitions from the Bronze to Pro driver. Dillmann emphasized the importance of maintaining clean air for overtaking opportunities, mentioning, "If you’re stuck behind another LMP2, it’s really hard to overtake."

As CTMP is known for its fast and flowing nature, managing GT traffic will also pose a challenge. Dillmann explained the intricacies of overtaking in early corners: "We need to anticipate and back off where necessary, but this can result in significant time loss. Finding an opening before the corner is essential."

With this blend of experience and emerging talent—evident in his co-driver Jeremy Clarke’s impressive performances—Dillmann’s team is poised for a competitive showing in Canada. A strong result is imperative for their pursuit of a consecutive IMSA title.
