Leadership Transition Announced for Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach
Long Beach, CA — The Grand Prix Association of Long Beach has announced a significant leadership change set for June 30, 2026. Jim Michaelian will hand over the reins as President and CEO to Jim Liaw, who will officially take over on July 1, 2026.
Jim Michaelian, 82, has been with the Grand Prix Association since its inception in 1975 and has served in various roles, including Controller and Chief Operating Officer, before becoming President & CEO in December 2001. His leadership oversaw milestones such as the recent 50th anniversary celebration of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
“This event and this community mean a great deal to me,” Michaelian stated. “I’m proud of what our team has built together… I feel this is the right time to make this transition.” Michaelian will ensure continuity by collaborating with Liaw during the upcoming 2026 event.
Liaw, 50, brings extensive experience to the position, having previously served as General Manager for Performance Racing Industry and co-founding Formula Drift in 2003. “I’m honored to join the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach and to help lead one of the most recognized events in motorsports,” he said, reflecting on his personal connection to the race.
Mark Miles, President and CEO of Penske Entertainment Corp., expressed gratitude for Michaelian’s contributions, highlighting his role in establishing the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach as a marquee event within the NTT IndyCar Series.
“Jim Liaw is an ideal fit to expand the recent growth and popularity of this historic event,” Miles added, underscoring Liaw’s potential impact on its future.
The transition comes at a crucial time for the Grand Prix, emphasizing continuity and evolution in leadership as it heads into its next chapter.
