Brad Keselowski Eyes RFK Racing’s Return to IMSA with New Ford LMDh Prototype
RFK Racing co-owner and driver Brad Keselowski has expressed strong interest in re-entering IMSA competition with the upcoming Ford LMDh prototype for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s GTP class. Speaking at an event at Phoenix Raceway, Keselowski stated, “Ford is building a Hypercar for 2027 that is going to compete at Le Mans, and maybe the United States. And if it competes in the United States, I’d like to own that team.”
Currently, Ford’s LMDh prototype, which is set to debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2027, will be run by a factory-operated team. Despite this, speculation continues regarding its potential involvement in IMSA.
Keselowski, a 2012 NASCAR Cup Series Champion, highlighted RFK Racing’s historical ties to sports car racing. Before transitioning fully to NASCAR, RFK’s predecessor, Roush Racing, achieved significant success in the IMSA GT Championship and SCCA Trans-Am, securing 24 national championship titles and 12 manufacturers’ championships for Ford. Roush Racing’s Mustangs dominated the IMSA GTO/GTS categories, boasting ten consecutive class wins at the Rolex 24 from 1985 to 1995.
While Keselowski has previously discussed the possibility of expanding into IMSA, this marks his first indication of interest in a prototype program. He clarified to FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass that his commitment to NASCAR is unwavering: “I don’t want an off-ramp from the Cup Series. I love driving in the Cup Series, I’m happy with that. But I do want to be a part of an IMSA team in that class.”
He added, “Yet to be seen if Ford will come to North America, but they’ve announced plans to race in Europe with that car. We’ll see what happens. But if the opportunity opens up, RFK would love to be a part of it.”
As the motorsports community awaits Ford’s strategic decisions in the coming years, the potential for RFK Racing to re-establish itself in sports car racing builds anticipation.
