IMSA Testing Unveils Updated GTP Prototypes at Daytona
Daytona International Speedway, FL — Leading up to the IMSA-sanctioned test session, teams from BMW, Cadillac, Acura, and Porsche unveiled significant updates to their GTP prototypes on Thursday morning, aiming to enhance performance and comply with balance of performance (BOP) regulations.
BMW M Hybrid V8: Aerodynamic Enhancements
BMW introduced notable cosmetic and aerodynamic changes to the M Hybrid V8. Key updates include reduced-size kidney grilles and a redesigned headlight configuration featuring yellow accents reminiscent of classic BMW M models. Achim Klein, project lead for BMW M Motorsport, stated, “In the end, we just did an update on the aerodynamics… it’s just an aerodynamic update with visual styling.” The adjustments aim to improve car behavior while exploring new setup possibilities after three years of competition.
Cadillac V-Series.R: Streamlined Design
Cadillac has refined its V-Series.R for 2026 by removing front winglets and diveplanes, alongside modifications to the splitter and rear spoiler. These changes are designed to optimize aerodynamic efficiency, adapting the vehicle for competitive advantage.
Acura ARX-06: Minor Adjustments
Acura, while scaling back on extensive alterations, has executed a “tidying up” of the ARX-06, according to David Salters, President of Honda Racing Corporation US. This includes reshaped rear wheel covers and front diveplanes. He remarked, “Generically, we’re happy. There’s a reasonable balance on the car,” emphasizing the overall satisfaction with the vehicle’s current performance.
Porsche 963: Configuration Tweaks
Porsche’s updates to the 963 encompass a reprofiled front splitter and revised rear diffuser strakes across its Penske Motorsport factory entries, ensuring enhanced aerodynamic stability.
Aston Martin Valkyrie: Future Intentions
Notably, the Aston Martin Valkyrie will forgo its Evo upgrades during this test, preparing for its Rolex 24 At Daytona debut next month. This positions the Valkyrie as a fresh contender in the competitive GTP landscape.
