RS1 Unveils Driver Lineup for 2024 Daytona Debut
Reigning IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class champions, RS1 (Rennsport One), have confirmed their driver roster for the upcoming WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, set to debut at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Key drivers include 2022 Rolex 24 GTD class winner Jan Heylen, who secured the GS title last season with RS1. He will share the No. 28 Porsche 911 GT3 R with newcomer Eric Zitza, son of 2000 Rolex 24 class victor Ron Zitza. Most recently, Porsche factory driver Sven Müller and 2017 Pilot Challenge GS champion Dillon Machavern have been announced as additional co-drivers for the prestigious event.
Müller returns to the Rolex 24 after a two-year hiatus, having last competed in 2021 with Rick Ware Racing/Eurasia Motorsport in LMP2. The German driver clinched the 2022 GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup title with Rutronik Racing and finished second at the 24 Hours of Spa. Meanwhile, Machavern, a former RS1 driver, transitioned to Turner Motorsport for the WeatherTech Series, achieving notable victories at Watkins Glen and Petit Le Mans.
Heylen made his WeatherTech Championship return last October at Petit Le Mans with Magnus Racing and has also earned a Michelin Pilot Challenge crown alongside co-driver Luca Mars. He recently raced for RS1 in GT World Challenge America, securing a third-place finish in the Pro class championship alongside Alex Sedgwick.
RS1 aims to assert its presence in the Michelin Endurance Cup for the first time after a series of championship wins over the past four years, including titles in the Pirelli GT4 America Silver class and the GT World Challenge America Pro title in 2023 during their inaugural GT3 campaign.
