Logan Sargeant Returns to Motorsports with PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports

Logan Sargeant, a former Formula 1 driver, is set to re-enter the motorsports scene, joining PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports for the final two races of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The 24-year-old will pilot the No. 52 ORECA 07-Gibson at the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks in Indianapolis and the Motul Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, sharing the car with Naveen Rao and Benjamin Pedersen.

Sargeant expressed enthusiasm about his return, stating, “I’m super excited to be jumping back into a car for the last two LMP2 races in IMSA. It’s a great opportunity to drive at two special tracks… I’m eager to contribute to a successful couple of races for the team.”

After a notable 36-race stint in Formula 1 with Williams Racing from 2023 to 2024, where he became the first American driver in 30 years to score points—achieving this at the 2023 U.S. Grand Prix—Sargeant briefly withdrew from competitive racing to pursue other interests. Recently, however, he has aligned with Oliver Gavin Motorsport Management to focus on a future in sports car racing.

PR1 team principal Bobby Oergel welcomed Sargeant’s addition, emphasizing confidence in his pace and the team’s collaborative spirit: “We really want to welcome him into our team… The opportunity to do some testing ahead of the Indy event should do just that.”

Co-drivers Rao and Pedersen also voiced their excitement about collaborating with Sargeant in the upcoming races. Rao remarked on the precision required for the Indianapolis circuit, while Pedersen noted the team’s recent improvements in car speed and their focus on securing a win.

In summary, Sargeant’s return could bolster PR1’s performance, bringing fresh energy and experience to the LMP2 class as the season concludes.
