IndyCar 2025 Schedule Update: Key Insights and Anticipated Changes
As the IndyCar Series prepares for the 2025 season, series president Doug Boles emphasizes the urgency of releasing the schedule before the conclusion of the current campaign. In a recent interview, Boles stated, "The sooner we can get the schedule out, the better for everybody," underlining the importance for teams, partners, and fans.
Since the 2024 schedule was established, all venues except Texas Motor Speedway have secured long-term agreements, allowing for early publication. However, several tracks—including Laguna Seca, Portland, and Toronto—are pending renewal discussions, with Toronto’s scheduling conflict due to the World Cup raising concerns. "Our intent is to be at all three," Boles confirmed regarding the targeted venues.
Fans also await the future of the Iowa Speedway, renowned for its historic short oval races. Despite the venue’s appeal, recent changes, including a partial repave of the track, have resulted in fewer overtaking opportunities, impacting race entertainment quality. Following the exit of former title sponsor Hy-Vee, which had significantly boosted attendance, this weekend’s races are critical. Boles indicated that adjustments to car specifications are being made to restore competitive racing at Iowa, stating, "If it feels like a continuation of the 2024 doubleheader, Iowa’s time could be over."
The 2025 calendar aims for 17 races, but total numbers may fluctuate between 16 and 18, pending the inclusion of a new race in Arlington and the uncertain status of Iowa and Mexico. As Boles stated, "The plan is to be at 17," projecting a hopeful yet cautious outlook for the upcoming season.
The decisions made in the coming weeks will play a significant role in shaping the future landscape of the IndyCar Series.
