Grosjean Eager for IndyCar Return After Year-Long Hiatus
As the one-year anniversary of Romain Grosjean’s last appearance in the IndyCar Series approaches, the veteran driver expresses a strong desire to return to open-wheel racing. Grosjean, who has spent substantial time competing in IndyCar—initially with Dale Coyne Racing (2021), followed by Andretti Global (2022-23) and Juncos Hollinger Racing (2024)—currently acts as the reserve driver for PREMA Racing while racing with Lamborghini Squadra Corse in IMSA GTP.
With 2025 marking an unusual year devoid of both Formula 1 and IndyCar events for Grosjean, he has only participated in a limited number of endurance races. “I miss racing IndyCar,” he stated in an interview with RACER. He also noted the financial challenges of securing a seat in a competitive environment, emphasizing, “When I speak to some teams, they say, ‘We need money.’ And I say, ‘Yeah, I’m sorry, that’s my job, and when I do my job, I get paid.’”
Grosjean’s experiences in the series vary; he was well-regarded at Dale Coyne Racing, faced challenges at Andretti Global, and had a generally positive tenure with Juncos Hollinger until that team shifted toward funding arrangements for drivers. Despite the scarcity of available paid seats for the upcoming season, Grosjean remains hopeful of reestablishing his presence in IndyCar, indicating strong on-track performance as his primary asset. “My value is on track,” he asserted. “I’m good at taking a race car and a team and putting it where it belongs.”
As the search for opportunities continues, Grosjean is poised to make his case for a return to the series that has defined much of his racing career.
