Kyle Kirkwood Claims First Oval Victory at Bommarito Automotive Group 500
World Wide Technology Raceway, August 27, 2025 — Kyle Kirkwood demonstrated his versatility as an IndyCar driver by securing his first oval victory at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, marking a critical point in his championship campaign. The win was his third of the season, adding to earlier triumphs at Long Beach and Detroit, reinforcing his status as a serious contender against the dominant Alex Palou.
Kirkwood’s victory at WWTR allowed him to narrow his points deficit to Palou from 150 to 75, positioning him third in the standings, just two points behind Pato O’Ward. After the race, Kirkwood reflected on the significance of winning on an oval: "This was huge for me. This was by far bigger than last weekend because of that," emphasizing the importance of being competitive across different types of circuits.
He commented on the importance of diversity in race wins: “You’ve got to win at multiple venues… a step in the right direction for sure.” Kirkwood acknowledged the past successes of Palou, noting, “I’m not surprised of what has transpired with him… But now we’re getting to a point in the season where we are very close.”
Next weekend, the IndyCar series heads to Road America, a track where Kirkwood has previously excelled. He stated, “Road America has been a good one for us… But Mid-Ohio has kind of eluded me in IndyCar,” indicating his intent to improve at that circuit.
The focus now shifts to these vital upcoming races, as Kirkwood aims to continue his momentum in pursuit of the championship.
