Foyt Racing Returns to Indy NXT with HMD Motorsports Partnership
AJ Foyt Racing will re-enter the Indy NXT series next season through a strategic partnership with HMD Motorsports. This collaboration aims to enhance driver development pathways between the Indy NXT series and the IndyCar Series.
The initiative will feature a two-car entry under the Foyt/HMD banner, marking a significant return for the team to the developmental circuit, which has evolved through various iterations since its inception as the American Racing Series in 1986. Significantly, the program represents Foyt Racing’s commitment to nurturing talent capable of reaching the top levels of IndyCar, reinforcing its historical role in driver development.
Larry Foyt, team president, stated, “This has been a long time coming… Forming a technical and strategic alliance with HMD Motorsports provides the experience and technical support to make our Indy NXT program as strong and effective as possible.”
Details regarding the driver lineup will be announced in due course. This marks Foyt’s third involvement with what is now Indy NXT; previous entries included engagements as far back as 1989, notably with future Indy Racing League founder Tony George and subsequent drivers like AJ Foyt IV, Ed Carpenter, and Jeff Simmons.
As Foyt Racing steps back into Indy NXT, the motorsports community eagerly anticipates the impact of this partnership on both driver development and the broader competitive landscape.
