Nolan Siegel Withdrawn from Iowa Doubleheader Following Crash
Arrow McLaren driver Nolan Siegel will miss the second leg of the NTT IndyCar Series doubleheader at Iowa Speedway after a crash during the Synk 275 on Saturday. Siegel, who initially qualified fifth, was unable to compete in the Farm to Finish 275 after being evaluated by the IndyCar Medical Team, which did not clear him for racing.
Siegel’s incident occurred in the final stages of the Synk 275 when he experienced a solo spin and crashed into the wall exiting turn 4, ultimately finishing 24th. “The car was a little weird from the time I left pit lane,” Siegel remarked post-race. "Then, I just lost it in the middle of turns 3 and 4. I was pushing hard.”
Team principal Tony Kanaan expressed empathy for Siegel’s situation, stating, “It’s the worst feeling in the world… The most important thing, though, is that he’s fit to race, and unfortunately that’s not the case today.” Arrow McLaren has opted not to switch drivers due to the proximity to the race start and will develop contingency plans for the next race in Toronto.
This season marks Siegel’s second year in IndyCar and his first full season with Arrow McLaren. Despite the setback, he enters the Iowa doubleheader after securing a season-best fourth-place finish at Mid-Ohio and currently ranks 21st in the championship standings.
Arrow McLaren’s No. 6 Chevrolet will not participate in the race, narrowing the field to 26 entries for the event.
