Newton, IA — Team Chevy delivered a commanding performance at the Sukup 275 IndyCar race on Saturday, achieving a 1-2-3-4 finish, further solidifying its dominance at Iowa Speedway since the series returned in 2022. Arrow McLaren’s Pato O’Ward secured the victory, leading the team to yet another triumph in the heart of corn country.
Starting from pole position, Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden led the race for a significant portion, commanding a race-high 232 laps. However, O’Ward ultimately took the lead and maintained it, leading a total of 268 laps out of 275. This victory marks O’Ward’s eighth since joining IndyCar, all of which have been secured with Chevy power.
O’Ward expressed his satisfaction with the result, stating, “Very happy for Team Chevy. This was important and very deserving for Team Chevy. I’m glad it was an all-Chevy podium.” His win elevates him to second in the IndyCar championship standings, and he now boasts the most podium finishes among Chevy drivers, with five in eleven races. Christian Lundgaard is the next closest with four.
Newgarden, who finished second, echoed O’Ward’s sentiments, remarking, “Team Chevy did a great job. Finally (getting) a win for Team Chevy is a big deal. They should have had way more on the year, so good to finally get one.”
