Mick Schumacher to Undergo Critical Oval Test in February

Mick Schumacher, the newly signed driver for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) in the IndyCar Series, is scheduled for his first oval test at Miami-Homestead Speedway on February 4. This test comes just days before a significant gathering at the Sebring International Raceway for a road course event on February 9-10.

The Miami test is pivotal for Schumacher, as he must pass his rookie oval evaluation before competing at Phoenix Raceway on February 17-18, and subsequently at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indy Open Test on April 28-29. RLL President Jay Frye emphasized the importance of this series of tests, stating, “He’ll be in a car three weeks in a row: Homestead, Sebring, Phoenix.”

In preparation, Schumacher will also utilize the simulator to enhance his skills for the upcoming races. Frye noted, “The sim schedule is being worked on, but we will certainly have Mick in the sim prior to going to Homestead.”

RLL is actively seeking an experienced oval specialist to support Schumacher and other drivers, drawing inspiration from mentorships like Dario Franchitti at Chip Ganassi Racing. Frye remarked, “Sometimes it’s good to have somebody go between the drivers to help them, so that’s something that we’re definitely looking into.”

As the season approaches, the development and performance of Schumacher in these initial tests will be closely monitored, underscoring RLL’s commitment to his successful integration into IndyCar racing.
