David Malukas Captures Third in the 109th Indianapolis 500
Indianapolis, IN – David Malukas demonstrated resilience and competitive spirit, finishing third in the 109th Indianapolis 500 after a challenging year. Starting from seventh position, Malukas initially led the race but ultimately settled behind Alex Palou and Marcus Ericsson.
Reflecting on his journey, Malukas stated, “This past year has been the toughest of my life. A year ago, I was sidelined, lacking the use of my left hand. To be back in the Indy 500 and fighting for the win is incredible.”
Malukas’s impressive comeback follows a significant injury sustained during a mountain biking accident in February 2024, which kept him from racing the entire season prior. He subsequently joined Meyer Shank Racing for the latter part of the previous season before signing a multiyear deal with AJ Foyt Racing in August.
In this year’s Indianapolis 500, Malukas’s strong performance not only marked a personal triumph but also a potential turning point for AJ Foyt Racing, which has struggled this season. His teammate, Santino Ferrucci, finished seventh, echoing a renewed sense of possibility within the team.
Malukas noted the team’s morale boost, stating, “We needed this performance. It’s a big turning point, showing we can compete and that luck can go our way.”
With this strong finish, Malukas aims to capitalize on the momentum as the IndyCar season progresses, hopefully signaling a shift in the team’s fortunes.
