IndyCar Announces Grid Penalties for Chip Ganassi Racing Ahead of Milwaukee Mile

IndyCar has issued grid penalties for Chip Ganassi Racing’s entries Nos. 8 and 9, driven by Kyffin Simpson and Scott Dixon, respectively, for the upcoming Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250. Both drivers will face a nine-position drop on the starting grid due to engine changes that exceed the season’s allotted number following a recent team test at Nashville Superspeedway.

The infractions stem from violations of Rule 16.1.2.3.2. This rule stipulates that a fifth engine can earn Manufacturer points only if a Full Season Entrant has completed the required engine mileage with the first four engines. Any engine change beyond this mileage is classified as an Unapproved Engine change-out.

As outlined in Rule 16.1.6.1.2, the nine-position penalty is applicable for oval events, and affected drivers are required to serve this penalty at the next scheduled race. Both Chip Ganassi Racing teams will aim to optimize performance despite the setback.
