DRR Eyes Expansion Beyond Indianapolis 500 with Upcoming Plans for IndyCar Series

INDIANAPOLIS – Dennis Reinbold and the Dreyer & Reinbold Racing (DRR) team are strategizing to broaden their involvement in the IndyCar Series beyond their traditional entry at the Indianapolis 500. Since its inception in 2000, DRR participated full-time until 2012, but financial constraints reduced their activities to primarily the Indy 500, where they have established a reputation as formidable contenders.

While specific plans for a more extensive program remain under wraps, Reinbold indicated the beginning of a part-time campaign as early as 2026, aiming to build momentum in advance of the new IR28 chassis rollout scheduled for 2028. “I want to be positioned when the new car rolls around and everybody hits the reset,” Reinbold stated, emphasizing a renewed commitment to a full-time return.

DRR’s strategy leverages the necessity for outside investment, with Reinbold articulating, “We’ve rethought things… and definitely kept the idea of becoming full-time again.” He expressed satisfaction with DRR’s current Indy program, acknowledging improvements made in recent years.

Jack Harvey has been confirmed for one of DRR’s two Indy 500 entries. The second seat remains unfilled, creating potential for further races if the expansion plan comes to fruition. Notably, former DRR driver Conor Daly has been linked with sponsorship opportunities that could support DRR’s broader ambitions.

IndyCar has implemented a new charter system, limiting the field to 27 cars for all standard races. This added competitive layer means that any additional entries from DRR would need to navigate a qualifying process to secure a spot in the actual races. Last Chance Qualifications will be introduced for events with more than 27 participants, ensuring that the competition remains tight.

Reinbold remarked on the importance of being actively prepared for the future, stating, “If we’re already into a season, and we get a new car thrown at us, that gives us something that we can really start working on.” He remains optimistic about DRR’s prospects in the evolving IndyCar landscape, reinforcing his and the team’s commitment to the series.
