Will Power’s Race Ends in Tire Failure at Bommarito 500

In a disappointing turn of events at the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, Team Penske’s Will Power was forced to retire following a right-front tire failure while contending for the lead. Power was in second place behind David Malukas on lap 52 when his No. 12 Chevrolet lost tire pressure, leading him to crash into the Turn 4 wall.

Power had been strategically managing his fuel with hopes of avoiding an additional pit stop. “We had a good car just sitting there, saving fuel, getting a big number to try to get rid of that fourth stop,” he explained. However, the tire failure thwarted his plans. “I felt last night that there was a lot of tire load… unfortunately, nothing was going to stop a tire failure,” he said.

This incident marks a significant setback for Power, who had been competitive throughout the race. He expressed disappointment but remained optimistic, stating, “We always knock on the door, but not today.” Power’s next opportunity to contend for a win will come at the series’ next event as he looks to bounce back from this setback.
