Rossi’s Indianapolis 500 Ends in Fire Incident
In a dramatic turn of events during the Indianapolis 500, Alexander Rossi’s race concluded prematurely due to a fire that ignited while refueling. The incident occurred when the flames came into contact with refueler Mike Miller, resulting in minor burns to his hands. Additionally, Miller and crew members from the No. 20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet experienced exposure to fire extinguishants, necessitating evaluation at the infield care center, where all were ultimately released.
“It’s always a terrible situation,” Rossi commented on the mishap. “It was such a phenomenal race car. The team made a great decision to stay out there when the first split happened with strategy.”
Rossi expressed frustration over the series of misfortunes. “You have to have so many things go right. It’s so disappointing; it’s another opportunity gone,” he added. He noted that a gearbox issue contributed to the culmination of his race troubles.
Following the incident, ECR confirmed that Miller was back in the shop Monday morning, collaborating with teammates to prepare Rossi’s car for the upcoming Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix.
