IndyCar Enforces Grid Penalty on Ed Carpenter Racing Following Engine Change Violation
IndyCar has issued a six-position starting grid penalty for the No. 21 Ed Carpenter Racing entry, driven by Christian Rasmussen, due to an unapproved engine change conducted after a team test at Iowa Speedway on June 25.
The violation pertains to Rule 16.1.2.3.2, which stipulates that a fifth engine is only eligible to earn Engine Manufacturer points if a full-season entrant has completed the specified mileage with its first four engines. Failure to comply classifies the additional engine as an unapproved change.
Further details indicate that, per Rule 16.1.6.1.2, the penalty will impact starting positions by six slots for road and street course events, and nine positions for oval races. The penalty will be enforced at the upcoming Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio.
