Ed Delporte Passes Away After Battle with Cancer
Ed Delporte, a long-time fixture in IndyCar racing and a cornerstone of Ed Carpenter Racing (ECR), passed away on June 3, 2025, after a prolonged battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 62 years old.
Delporte was pivotal in ECR’s early days, contributing his expertise as an electronics engineer since the team’s inception. "It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our teammate Ed Delporte," ECR stated. "He was not only a talented engineer but also an integral part of our ECR family. A true historian of the sport, Ed attended 13 Indianapolis 500s as a fan before working at 30, with this year marking his 31st."
As his health declined, Delporte faced challenges managing daily activities. Team members rallied to support him, providing assistance with chores and companionship during chemotherapy sessions. This camaraderie exemplified the strong bond within the ECR team.
Unfortunately, Delporte was unable to participate in the Indy 500 this past May. In response, ECR General Manager Tim Broyles commissioned a support sticker carried by all three of the team’s entries, honoring Delporte’s enduring legacy.
The motorsports community mourns the loss of a dedicated professional whose contributions shaped the landscape of IndyCar racing.
