Andretti Global Announces Leadership Transition for IndyCar Team
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Starting in 2026, Andretti Global’s IndyCar team will see a leadership shift as Ron Ruzewski, formerly a managing director and race strategist at Team Penske, steps in as team principal. This change marks a significant transition from current COO Rob Edwards, who will assume the role of Chief Performance Officer for TWG Motorsports, overseeing operations across multiple racing series, including NASCAR, IMSA, and Formula E.
Rob Edwards’ New Role and Responsibilities
After a successful tenure that included steering the Schmidt Hamilton/Peterson Motorsports team to two top-five championship finishes with Simon Pagenaud, Edwards is poised to broaden his focus within TWG Motorsports. While he will maintain a connection to the IndyCar and Indy NXT programs, his new position will require integrating performance strategies across various forms of motorsport.
“Ron will be a great fit, and I’m super excited to help him get settled in,” said Edwards. Their previous collaboration at Derrick Walker’s Walker Racing team will facilitate a smooth transition.
Ruzewski’s Experience and Goals
Ruzewski, who begins his role in January, comes equipped with a successful track record in managing competitive teams. His experience is expected to enhance Andretti’s pursuit of both championships and victories at the Indianapolis 500. Edwards noted, “The leadership position he takes on is no different from running the day-to-day aspects he’s accustomed to.”
Edwards on Embracing Change
Edwards expressed enthusiasm about his new role, saying, “The opportunity to do something fresh doesn’t always come along.” He aims to leverage insights gained across different series, noting the potential for cross-pollination of ideas between Formula E and IndyCar.
As he transitions from a focused race strategist role, Edwards acknowledged the adjustment required in connecting with multiple teams: “It will be different…being tied to the timing stand could lead others to think you only understand one car, rather than the team as a whole.”
Future Outlook
Under Ruzewski’s leadership, Andretti Global aims to solidify its position in the racing landscape. Edwards, while moving into a more overarching role, will still participate in select IndyCar and Formula E events, also expressing interest in attending his first NASCAR race.
As both Ruzewski and Edwards prepare for their new roles within the organization, the motorsports community anticipates potential fresh strategies and innovations that could redefine Andretti Global’s competitive edge.
