Andretti Global Makes Strategic Engineering Change for Marcus Ericsson
In a significant move to revitalize Marcus Ericsson’s performance in the 2025 season, Andretti Global has appointed Dave Seyffert as the new engineer for the No. 28 Honda, effective this weekend at Mid-Ohio. Positioned 21st in the drivers’ championship, Ericsson will partner with Seyffert over the final eight races, shifting Olivier Boisson to an R&D role within the organization.
Seyffert, recognized for his engineering acumen, has a proven track record within the team and previously collaborated with Felix Rosenqvist at Meyer Shank Racing. Notably, he was part of the winning crew for the 2021 Indianapolis 500 and recently guided Kyle Kirkwood to victory at World Wide Technology Raceway while stepping in as race engineer.
Rob Edwards, team COO, commented on the necessity of change: “My job is to get all three cars to where the 27 is, and sometimes you need to change things to try and make them work differently.” With Kirkwood holding second in the championship and Colton Herta at 10th, the team believes a new pairing may mirror these successful outcomes.
Ericsson, a seasoned driver and four-time race winner, has struggled in 2025, with a maximum finish of sixth at St. Petersburg and inconsistent results thereafter. His Indy 500 performance—where he finished second—was overshadowed by a post-race penalty that relegated both him and Kirkwood to the back of the field after technical infractions, severely impacting Ericsson’s championship standing.
With Jeremy Milless returning from injury, Seyffert’s transition to the No. 28 Honda allows for dual benefits: addressing ongoing projects with Boisson’s expertise and aiming to enhance the performance chemistry for Ericsson. "This change is aimed at getting more points on the board,” Edwards added, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to improvement.
As the team looks ahead, the focus will be on optimizing performance in what remains of the season, hoping to capitalize on Seyffert’s expertise to bolster Ericsson’s standings in the championship.
