Ferrucci Secures Career-Best Second Place at Detroit Grand Prix
Santino Ferrucci delivered a standout performance at the Chevy Grand Prix of Detroit, marking his evolution in the IndyCar Series since his debut with Dale Coyne Racing in 2018. Starting 21st, Ferrucci finished the 100-lap race in an impressive second place, leading for eight laps in the No. 14 AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet. This result not only represents his career-best finish but also the first time a Chevrolet driver secured a podium at this event.
Ferrucci’s ascent through the field, gaining 19 positions, propelled him from 15th to 10th in the championship standings. His achievement came amid challenges, particularly during qualifying, where he expressed self-criticism for his performance.
Post-race, Ferrucci praised his team’s efforts: “First off, huge shoutout to this whole team. We were struggling in qualifying, and I was hard on myself because it was all on me. Pit stops were phenomenal, and the strategy was perfect. The yellow flag helped, and I was really struggling before that.”
He also acknowledged the competition, particularly race winner Kyle Kirkwood, remarking, “Kyle was so fast today. Congratulations to him and his team. I’m just happy to bring Chevy to the podium and see A.J. Foyt Racing back on the streets of Detroit.”
This race underscores Ferrucci’s capabilities beyond oval tracks, solidifying his status as a formidable contender in the IndyCar Series.
