Colton Herta to Make Formula 2 Debut with Hitech in 2026
Cadillac-backed driver Colton Herta will join Hitech Grand Prix for his Formula 2 debut in the upcoming 2026 season, marking a strategic transition from IndyCar to the F1 feeder series. Herta’s participation comes as part of his development plan, consolidating his ties with Cadillac’s F1 team, where he currently serves as a test driver due to his lack of an FIA Super License.
Herta expressed enthusiasm for this opportunity, stating, “I’m incredibly excited to officially be joining F2. This is an amazing opportunity to develop my skills in European racing and to measure myself against some of the best young drivers in the world.” He highlighted the benefit of racing alongside Formula 1, fostering an environment conducive to growth within the Cadillac F1 family.
Hitech, known for its competitive pedigree, has secured race victories in every F2 season since its entry in 2020. Herta will benefit from the team’s proximity to Cadillac’s UK base at Silverstone, providing logistical advantages for both testing and racing commitments.
Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports and Cadillac F1 Team, reinforced Herta’s talent and professionalism, noting, “Colton has already shown exceptional talent. His move into Formula 2 with Hitech is a natural and important next step in his development towards Formula 1.” Towriss emphasized that this experience would enhance Herta’s racecraft and integration within the team.
Currently, Hitech is in a strong position in the 2025 F2 championship, trailing leaders Invicta by just 12 points, with two rounds remaining in Qatar and Abu Dhabi. This competitive environment will further provide Herta with critical racing experience as he pursues his F1 aspirations.
