Hunter-Reay Joins Arrow McLaren to Pursue Second Indy 500 Victory
Ryan Hunter-Reay is set to join Arrow McLaren for the month of May, aiming for his second Indianapolis 500 title and the team’s inaugural victory at the prestigious race. The 2014 Indy 500 champion, who previously raced with Andretti Global, narrowly missed a second win in 2025 while driving for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing, leading late before running out of fuel.
For this year’s event, Hunter-Reay will pilot the No. 31 Chevrolet, a nod to his rookie number from 2003 with the American Spirit Team Johansson in Champ Car. “This is an incredible opportunity in so many ways,” said Hunter-Reay. “I am beyond primed and ready to make the absolute most of this partnership.”
With 17 previous Indy 500 starts, the veteran driver will bring invaluable experience to an otherwise young Arrow McLaren lineup featuring Pato O’Ward, a consistent contender with three top-three finishes in the last four races; Christian Lundgaard, who secured seventh place in 2023; and rookie Nolan Siegel, who finished 13th after a crash late in his first Brickyard appearance.
Tony Kanaan, a key figure at Arrow McLaren and a former teammate of Hunter-Reay’s, endorsed the addition: “He’s an Indy 500 champion… We’re very excited to get started with him and have him part of our team into next May.” Kanaan emphasized the strategic importance of the fourth car, noting Hunter-Reay’s proven track record as a contender.
As the team prepares for the iconic race, Hunter-Reay’s experience and competitive spirit position Arrow McLaren for a formidable performance at “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”
