Detroit Grand Prix Incident: Red Flag Following Serious Crash
The Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix experienced a significant disruption on Sunday when a serious collision involving Louis Foster and Felix Rosenqvist led to a red flag in the closing stages of the race.
With 17 laps remaining in the 100-lap event, Foster, who was two positions behind Rosenqvist, suffered a suspension failure that caused his car to veer into the outside wall. Subsequently, he collided with Rosenqvist, who was braking for the upcoming turn. The incidents resulted in heavy impacts for both drivers: Rosenqvist spun violently into the turn 3 tire barrier, while Foster’s car slid into the tires at the back of the runoff area.
Immediate responses included the AMR Safety Team, who arrived on the scene quickly. Both drivers reported to their teams that they were unharmed and exited their vehicles independently. However, Rosenqvist reported leg pain and was transported off-track for further medical evaluation.
Foster commented on the incident: "The suspension just killed on us when I hit the brakes. I’ve never seen that happen before… This track’s just ridiculously bumpy. That has to be something to do with it, because that’s so uncommon."
Race officials decided to red flag the event with 13 laps remaining to clear the damaged vehicles and conduct necessary safety repairs. The event’s abrupt ending encapsulates the unpredictable nature of motorsport and the critical importance of driver safety in high-stakes competition.
