Kirkwood Extends Contract with Andretti Global Amid Thriving IndyCar Campaign
Kyle Kirkwood has secured his future in the IndyCar Series by extending his contract with Andretti Global through the end of the 2026 season. This announcement marks a significant move in the upcoming IndyCar silly season, as the talented Floridian was a sought-after free agent with interest from teams such as Arrow McLaren and Chip Ganassi Racing.
Kirkwood, who will continue to pilot the No. 27 Honda, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: “These are very exciting times for myself, Andretti Global, and TWG Motorsports,” he stated. He credited team leadership, including Dan Towriss and Jill Gregory, for their trust and support throughout his tenure. “Our trajectory has only been up, and I am confident that we will be fighting again for championships,” he asserted.
Kirkwood’s IndyCar journey began following his championship win in the 2021 Indy Lights series with Andretti. After a season with AJ Foyt Racing in 2022, his shift to Andretti in 2023 proved fruitful as he secured two victories and established himself as a formidable contender. Despite a winless 2024 season, his consistency, with 13 top-10 finishes, placed him seventh in the championship standings. In 2025, he emerged as a strong contender, achieving three wins and a career-best fourth in the drivers’ championship while consistently challenging eventual champion Alex Palou during the first half of the season.
Kirkwood’s commitment to Andretti signals stability and ambition as the team prepares for upcoming challenges with new dynamics, including the return of teammates Will Power and Marcus Ericsson, who is entering the final year of his contract. The extension positions Kirkwood as a key player in Andretti’s pursuit of continued success in the IndyCar Series.
